CONCERT REVIEW: Winyah and Edgehill at the High Noon Saloon

By: Bella Sandberg
This Friday, I went to the Winyah concert with Edgehill as the opener thanks to WSUM. The concert was at the high noon saloon which was the perfect space. For a sold out show, I still had plenty of room to jam out to the music and sing with my friend. I was super excited for this show because my sister had seen Winyah in December and was hyping it up. This was also my first concert since this past summer so I was missing live music.
Edgehill went out at 8:00 and finished their set at 8:50. They were amazing, they played many songs including “Look Around”, “Shooting Glances”, and “I Can Be Your Dog” – my personal favorite songs. The vibe was unmatched, usually with openers there’s less people in the venue and lots of people don’t know the words to the songs. However with Edgehill, the venue was full and at every song you could hear someone singing the words. After Winyah’s set, Edgehill came out to sell and sign merch, and the line to meet them didn’t die down at all. In fact, the only reason the line didn’t last all night was because the venue was closing and people had to leave. My friend and I got to meet Edgehill, and they were so funny and charismatic. They signed our posters, chatted with us, let me take a video for my friend, and took funny pictures with us. It was an unforgettable experience.
Winyah got on stage at 9:15 and immediately the audience went crazy. The main singer Thomas Rowland had amazing vocals. His riffs, stage presence and overall talent was insane. The other members of the band were also so talented, the guitarists made the songs sound cohesive and put together. Additionally, Winyah just finished recording a new album so I was lucky enough to hear a few songs from that. Some of the already released songs they played included “Lot To Learn”, “Feel It All Again”, and “Lay Me Down”. These songs sounded unreal in person due to their popularity. Everyone was singing the words and dancing with each other. Towards the end of the set, Thomas crowd surfed and it was amazing. Once they finished their set, they came out to talk to the fans and were so personable. They signed both my friend and my posters, and took multiple pictures with us. They spent a long time with each fan and seemed genuinely interested and caring for each fan they met.
Overall, this was an amazing experience and one of the best concert’s I’ve ever been to. My favorite part was getting to meet the bands after the show so I could get to know each person.
