CONCERT PREVIEW: Sudan Archives at the Majestic Theatre
I only started listening to Sudan Archives last summer after the dual release of singles “My Type” and “Yea Yea Yea”, but since then I have fallen in love with her music. As a self trained violinist, Sudan Archives blends different genres together with orchestral elements to create a unique sound, one that is seldom heard elsewhere. Her past albums “Athena” and “Natural Brown Prom Queen” combine R&B, pop, and hip-hop, and her most recent album, “The BPM”, is a critically acclaimed dance and electronic record.
Sudan Archives kicked off ‘The BPM’ tour mid-January with 25 stops across the country, and from what I’ve seen online, her performances seem electrifying. Her colored contacts and abstract body suits give her an otherworldly appearance, and on stage she utilizes a variety of drum pads, synths, keys, and of course, her violin. The energetic highs and emotional lows of her recent album are sure to provide a show with range, and I look forward to hearing songs like “Dead” and “A Bug’s Life” in person. Cain Culto, another violinist, is providing support for multiple of her shows, including this Friday’s show at the Majestic Theater on February 6th.
