WSUM’s Snake on the Lake Music Festival: September 19, 2025
By: Allison Lukas

MADISON, Wis. — WSUM-91.7 FM Madison Student Radio has partnered with WUD Music to take over Memorial Union Terrace for Snake On The Lake Festival, a free outdoor music festival on September 19 from 7:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M.
Snake on the Lake Music Festival will feature sets from @, Hooky and Winefred RT, as well as DJ sets between performances from WSUM DJs. In case of inclement weather, the festival will be moved indoors from the Terrace to Der Rathskeller on the same date.
This year’s headliner is Baltimore-based folk pop duo @ (pronounced “At”), made up of Victoria Rose and Stone Filipczak. The group released an EP, Are You There God? It’s Me, in January of last year via Carpark Records and recently wrapped up a Europe/UK tour leg in early August. With hazy guitar melodies and powerful vocals, their music is raw and refreshing, coming straight from the heart.
Philadelphia-based indie electronica group Hooky will be making up the second act of the festival’s lineup. Their fresh, experimental sound was recently paired with the group Winter to release a joint EP, Water Season. Songs like “Horseshoe” showcase Hooky’s Philadelphia inspired shoegaze sound with beautiful melodies and bittersweet feelings.
Winefred RT, the up-and-coming indie folk project of Zoe Bockhorst, will complete the festival’s lineup. The Chicago-based artist’s most recent release, “Garbage by the Door”, is the lead single off the upcoming album Anything Better To Do, which shows off her gritty and honest storytelling.
In addition to showcasing the talents of musical acts from the Midwest and beyond, this free all-ages event aims to celebrate the broader Madison community. WSUM and WUD Music will host several of UW-Madison’s student organizations at the event, as well as partner with local businesses. Sponsors for Snake on the Lake Festival include Isthmus, WORT FM, Steve Brown Apartments and Boardwalk Investments. WSUM will be selling merchandise at Snake on the Lake including limited edition t-shirts, posters and stickers.
Since 1999, the student staff of WSUM have organized an annual music festival as a way to thank the University of Wisconsin and Madison-area communities for their support and listenership by providing free, live entertainment. The station is committed to continuing that tradition, highlighting local art and student voices in the process. Past festival line-ups have included Andrew WK, the White Stripes and Paris, TX. WSUM is proud to partner with WUD Music again to present Madison with an evening of outdoor music and community celebration.
